The Jana Abrams Talent Agency (JATA) was founded by former actress and now Agent and Entrepreneur Jana Abrams. After studying at The Young People’s Theatre, Equity Showcase and York University, Jana Abrams graduated from the George Brown Theatre School in 1994 and has worked in the entertainment industry ever since. In 2003 after several years of assisting talent agents, Jana Abrams formed the Jana Abrams Talent Agency in conjunction with Creative Drive Artists Talent Agency. JATA was an immediate success and subsequently Jana Abrams was prompted to go solo in 2005. In 2007 JATA expanded once again to include a full service children’s division focusing on ages new born to 16 years old as seasoned children’s talent agent Lina Scuralli joins the growing team. Doug is the Film/TV Agent at Talent House, and a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre's Alliance Atlantis Film Resident Program Producers Lab.

Doug began producing film in 1996 with the award-winning documentary "Percy, Me and Bobby McGee'. Subsequently, Doug has produced feature films, short films and movies of the week. Lions Gate Films will release Doug's most recent feature 'The Chair', in April 2008.

Doug's diverse background leading up to his position at The Talent House includes studying symphonic percussion at McGill University, managing real estate and automotive businesses and his work at the Canadian Film Centre.

Currently Doug runs the film production company Panic Pictures Inc.

Beginning his career as an actor, casting director Jason Knight distinguished himself on many films and television programs in Canada before turning his talents to casting. Working as an associate at Clare Walker Casting, he later formed a partnership with renowned casting director John Buchan to form Buchan, Knight Casting and has been one of Canada’s leading casting directors ever since. His credits include the feature films: Jumper; Closing the Ring; Cairo Time; Fugitive Pieces; Poor Boys Game; Adoration and the recently completed The Making of Plus One. His television credits include: Darwin’s Darkest Hour (TV movie); Anne of Green Gables, A New Beginning; The Tenth Circle and Othello, as well his television series credits include the renowned Slings and Arrows.

Toronto Casting Director, Melissa Cassin, has been in the business for 11 years, most recently casting the hit Cinemax Television series' "Lingerie" and "Forbidden Science."

Melissa's "eye for talent" has enabled her to cast a wide range of projects for her clients - casting credits include Feature Films, Voice-Overs, over 100 Music Videos and over 200 Commercials – Union, Non-Union. Melissa has worked with reknown Directors such as Lil X, Jeffrey Fleisig, Jon Barber, etc.. Andrew Hayes is the principal casting director at Powerhouse Casting. Andrew has, over the years cast literally hundreds of commercials for production and ad agency clients based in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Andrew’s experience as a film director and later directing commercials at Directors Film Co, truly gives Andrew a unique perspective to be a casting director. He was the client and therefore knows exactly what directors want to see. His skill directing actors in audition is among the best in the country and his clients loyalty is a testament to that skill. We are very pleased to have Andrew Hayes with us at the Actors Symposium this February as our guest adjudicator in the Commercial workshop.

A director of international renown, Ken Girotti comes to the Actors’ Symposium from the set of the hit television series Rescue Me (starring Dennis Leary). He is a regular director the hit series Law & Order: Criminal Intent; The Listener; Royal Pains; Stargate Atlantis; 24; Supernatural and The Beast (starring the recently deceased Patrick Swayze). A veteran of film and television production, Ken’s resume is a virtual who’s who of Canadian television, featuring directorial credits on such seminal series as War of the Worlds; Catwalk; Top Cops; PSI Factor; La Femme Nikita; First Wave; The Outer Limits; Mutant X; Soul Food; Beautiful People; and Regenesis and most recently the locally produced hit series The Listener.

Award-winning director Don McBrearty has distinguished himself on the forefront of Canadian film and television over the course of his twenty-five years in the business. Cutting his directorial teeth on such landmark programs as The Ray Bradbury Theatre; My Secret Identity and the Hidden Room, he is currently directing programs for the hit television series Heartland, Murdoch Mysteries, Regenesis and Wild Roses. Don’s films-for-television include two remarkable bio-pictures: the dark and deeply disturbing Butterbox Babies and the renowned The Arrow (based on the history and personalities behind the cancellation of Canada’s Avro Arrow fighter jet).
