Dear Crystal, Brian, and Ron

Since the symposium I have had the chance to let all the techniques and tricks I had learned marinate and become applicable to my craft. With that being said, I cannot thank you guys enough for giving me the opportunity to participate in such a workshop. It was quite the enlightening experience that I shall take with me for the duration of my acting career. Keep up the good work! I hope to see all of you in the future.

The December'08 Actor's Symposium in Toronto was a resounding success - well managed and professionally presented. The actors I spoke with were extremely pleased with the calibre of the industry guests. Everyone agreed it was a terrific way for actors to get the inside scoop on auditioning and working in film & television.

I would like to send out a big thanks for everyone at Aaction and to Ron, Brian, and Crystal, and their staff, for sending me to the Actors' Symposium. What a great weekend! Well worth it!

My only regret was that I had to dash out on Saturday (for an audition!) and missed the "one-liners".

I've never won anything before, so this was a special thrill. It has also renewed my motivation to keep developing my craft.

The symposium was such an educational and inspiring experience. Many aspects of the business were de-mystified, I learned many useful "tips & tools" for auditioning, and was graced by the magic and talent of the acting community in Toronto. Kudos to everyone involved!

A heartfelt thanks to all,
Mary Goldman

Ladies & Gentlemen – Fellow Thespians!

As the oldest actor here, it behoves me to be upstanding & to speak on your behalf! I simply wish to pay tribute to a trio, who in the last two days, have become our guides, philosophers and friends!

It is a true fact, we are all in business for money. That is a given & requires no further comment.

But, at this Symposium, we have received far more than our just dues. I have never seen such intuitive empathy, such patience, such sheer enthusiasm for each and every participant.

We have all had our equal spam of personal attention – from the finest actor present – the most inexperienced. Everyone has had equal camera time. Blocking has been fine tuned. Although constructive criticisms have been given, they have been resolved by some positive assessment, delved from each performer. Proving a deep sympathetic, delved from each performer.

Well, there are one hundred of us here and we have all been in friendly competition. Vying for personal attention, from our three Mentors! Actors are as “Alice-in-the-looking-glass!” She is looking in, but does not see an image looking back at her! Everyone here understands this crisis of identity.

We need input from a respected observer, to tell us who we are! We enrolled here, hoping for a revelation – I have had four! One of which I will mention here: Brian Levy mentioned to me, in front of whole the symposium , that I have a distinctive voice! To endorse the revelation, Dan Sandor of Vox (a non-union voice-over talent agency) offered to represent me!

You would think that after 20 year on the operatic stage, I would realize that my voice over skills are worth developing.

But it takes objective observations from experts, whose opinion you value, to set you on to a new career.

Thanks
Ron, Brian and Crystal

Sincerely,
John C. Smith

Ron, just wanted to drop you a note saying GOOD JOB!

The pace of the symposium was good. there was no FLUFF, and it is amazing how much TECHNICAL information and training that an actor needs in order to appear at least 1/2 knowledgeable!

I guess it does not need to be said that you are obviously a good speaker and communicator, which makes a huge difference to those of us that have to sit for hours and listen, lol

It did not seem like hours. I will certainly be looking into the other events the Actors Symposium undertakes, as well as those you offered up at the sponsors tables. The prices and subjects were/are all well worth it.

Again THANKS
Mark Crocker

Dear Ron, Brian, and Crystal,

Thank you so much for putting The Actors' Symposium together. It truly was the weekend of De-Mystification!

I actually feel much less intimidated to audition, now that we as actors were also shown the other side of casting. Real techniques that show us in the best light to directors and producers as well as increasing our chances of booking the gigs, were so appreciated. Getting the opportunity to meet you all on a more personal level without the pressure of an actual auditon made me feel real good.

Also, the opportunity to meet and question the other professionals in the industry like the other casting directors, talent agents, directors and producers was (as I've said to Ron before) "Gold on a Silver Platter"!

As a result of this weekend, I had the chance to network with talent agents that will allow me to interview with them later and possibly get representation in Toronto.

I'm glad I made the decision to come from Montreal to do this and would highly recommend any other talent to do so when the next Symposium comes up.

I just wanted to thank you again for your help this past weekend. It truly helped my grasp on film and television, especially in areas such as short script auditions. I now feel more confident.

And I just got a Feature audition for Thursday, so your advice will lead me to have a much more full and professional audition.

Thank-you

As you may or may not remember I attended the actor's symposium last weekend. I know you've heard it probably like a thousand times already but i would like to thank you, Brian, and Crystal for putting it together. It was extremely valuable and could one day very well be considered a key part of a young actor's career in Toronto.

I have already been asked to speak about it in a scene study class that I'm taking with the lovely Lynn Weintraub and everyone seemed very responsive and I think there was a lot of interest in it. As i understand correctly, you will be holding this event two times a year in Toronto (and once in Vancouver) so to give them a little bit of a heads up, do you have any ideas approximately when that would be so my peers will know when to look out for it?

I was just wondering if the 3 headshots and resumes that they asked for when we took our pictures went to you (Ron), Brian and Crystal because i've already landed a couple of gigs since the conference!

Cheers
Chris Scarpelli

Thanks you so much for all the work you did to bring us the 1st Actors' Symposium. What a success!!!! I have so many fond memories from the week end.

The networking I did over the week end was invaluable. The marketing & self promotion involved in this biz has always been a bit scary for me but I practiced over the week end & it was re-enforced to me just how important it is.

I hope this is the 1st of many more Symposiums to come. If you do plan one for kids please let me know. My youngest son is now in the biz & rep'ed by Sandra.

You do so much for actors in our community and I sure hope you know how much we appreciate you!

I've been working really hard since I first met you. Rod has been the perfect agent for me. Thanks again for referring me to him. I'm meeting with him soon to go over some tapes of some class work I've been doing & some auditions & student films. He mentioned that he was seeing you the other day. I hope you gave him some feedback about the scene I did at the Symposium.

Warmest regards & congratulations!
Kim Shimizu

“...Thank you for organizing the Actors Symposium. I thoroughly enjoyed this even and found it far exceeded my expectations!

As someone who has done event planning I appreciate the work that must have gone into this, and I learned so much in such a short period of time.

It was of particularly interesting to me to hear how to deal with those ‘one-to-five line’ roles. That is something no one has ever addressed in acting classes that I have taken. And I really enjoyed watching the performances and hearing your notes. They gave me so many ideas that I can use myself both in auditions and on set.”
